Project of Promotion on NGO Actions on Carbon Dioxide Emission Reduction

Absrtact
The global warming issue have been formed the consensus as the first priority environmental problem in the world. Although Taiwan’s government and civil society are actively promoting actions on anti-global warming, our efforts are not visible at the international level. Since Taiwan is not a member in the United Nations, we hardly have official channels to interact with stakeholders under UN’s framework. However, Taiwan still have possibilities to participate the global environmental occasions through the assistance of NGOs. The NGOs also help to promote the public to participate the carbon dioxide emission reduction activities, arising the attention on the global warming, and strengthen Taiwan’s efforts on these issues. This project has four main tasks: (a) to promote NGOs participation in international activities and dialogue on CO2 reduction, and conduct an international conference “2007 International NGO Forum on Climate Change” and two Roundtable meetings during 19th – 21st October, 2007. We invited 12 representatives from renowned international NGO to Taiwan to share their experiences; (2) to collect domestic and international NGOs actions on CO2 reductions; (3) to draw up the strategies that NGO can assist the citizens to participate in the CO2 emission reductions actions, and make feasibility analysis; (4) to help to participate in the international promotional activities on global warming issue, send researchers to California in March to visit local authorities and Sierra Club for learning about the strategies and actions on carbon emission reduction. .
